Netflix Tips Up Coronavirus Pandemic With New Season of 'Explained'

Netflix has debuted a new mini-series ‘Coronavirus, Explained’ together with Vox Media.

Coronavirus Explained is a new documentary series that dives deep into the coronavirus pandemic that is currently affecting all of our lives. The television documentary, which debuted on Netflix on April 26, is narrated by J.K. Simmons.

The first episode gives a solid overview of the coronavirus pandemic, from the history of outbreak all the way from China up to the current global status and how it became a pandemic.

 You’ll also get a explanation for a lot terms you’ve heard recently, like "herd immunity" and "social distancing."

Still, about two-thirds of the episode is new. For those updates, producers turned to the Vox newsroom that has been covering the day-to-day news of the outbreak. They also pulled archival footage and leaned on animators working around the clock. J.K Simmons, who narrated the previous pandemic episode, was shipped a recording kit so he could add voice over to the new episode while sheltering at home.

The episode further dives deep into how the virus could have come to life and how deadly it is compared to other existing viruses. Viewers will also see interviews with health experts on infectious diseases and public health, including Bill Gates.

There will be additional episodes coming to make a mini-season.

This mini-series is part of Netflix’s Explained documentaries with past titles; Sex, Explained, The Mind, Explained.
