My Experience with MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour Burnt Spice:
The packaging is pretty simple and convenient; nothing fancy, pretty much “MAC like.” The see-through plastic tube which shows the color has a black lid with the applicator. It is easy to carry around as well. I am not a big fan of the tear-drop applicator, because personally for me, it picks up a lot of product. I have thin lips and I don’t need a lot of product, so generally I use a lip brush or even my fingers work better.
“Burnt Spice” is a really beautiful n*de color with peach and coral undertones. This will be a coral color for paler skin tones I think. When I swatched it on my hand, I felt it like it was too pale even for my fair skin tone, but it dried down to an altogether different color which was a shade darker! So that’s when I thought this was perfect for me. Never judge a lipstick by its looks
The texture is flat-out matte, no adjectives added. It appears to be watery and liquidy, but it dries down to what you cannot even imagine. It is a perfect matte with a comfortable feel on lips. You have to use a lip balm underneath prior to application, which helps prevent drying out of lips.
The pigmentation is amazing. I need a tiny bit of product on my lips and I get full coverage considering I have thin lips. I’m gonna give it to MAC for getting the formula right! Matte lovers are definitely gonna love this.
Once it dries and sets, it does not budge. You can drink as much water, coffee/tea you want and it’s still there. It does transfer eventually, but the tiniest amount which I feel is almost negligible. It’s not like it wipes out the whole thing from the lips. For me, it lasts for almost 7 hours with uniform fading. It survives meals too, but it might come off if you eat a lot of oily food.
I don’t reapply it within those 7 hours of wear, because I am not really a touch-up person. One thing I noticed is that it flakes in the middle of my mouth, sort of like little balls sometimes. I have to compulsorily exfoliate and moisturize my lips, otherwise it would settle into the lip lines really badly. Somehow, I did not feel this to be that drying at the end of the day, maybe because I use Dior’s lip sugar scrub underneath. I so love this!
I’ve used this shade with my smoky eyes in the FOTD and I think it goes beautifully with bold eyes as well as by itself.
