When my children were in their teens they began to make me breakfast for Mother's Day.
We usually had mock eggs Benedict and fruit. Instead of béarnaise sauce, mock eggs Benedict is made with cheese sauce.
It's super delicious and easier than béarnaise sauce.
My family did not bring me breakfast in bed because I always have to have my coffee before I eat but breakfast in bed for mom is a fun tradition for many families.
The breakfast can vary but an essential ingredient is a tray.
Trays are very easy to make and can be made out of scrap lumber.

I made a darling tray a few months ago.
Every once in a while, I get a bee up my bonnet and I think we have too much furniture.
The thing that I love the least gets put into the discard pile.
The candidate was this vintage vanity. I picked it up several years ago and painted it white.
The paint finish just didn't hold up to the onslaught of make up products.
I was ready for it to find a new home.

I was ready for it to find a new home.
Except this time, I thought that we could cut it apart to make two end tables. Bill helped me cut it apart and route the edges.
I haven't regretted this change. I love our two little end tables in the living room.
Being the pack rat that I am, I couldn't throw the middle section of wood away. I thought that the color and curve of the wood were pretty.
I used four candle cups as the feet. I drilled a hole in the bottom of the cup.
They were $5.39 for a package of 8. The total for the feet came to $2.69.
Use the 40% off coupon to save even more.
I drilled a hole through each of the cups and screwed them onto the underside of my board.
I stained them to match the top.
We picked up two drawer pulls on a visit to the home improvement store.
These are very similar to the pulls I got. $5.16 for both.
Add some flowers, toast and a hot beverage and you've got breakfast in bed.
The teacup, saucer and bread and butter plate came from Bill's grandmother.
The set matches the pillow from IKEA.
Which, in turn, matches the painting.
You know how all that goes.
Let mom keep the tray when she's done with breakfast.
I want to wish my friends a Happy Mother's Day.
It is a joyous day but it can also be very painful. I hope that this finds you well where ever you are.
